Your First Crochet Project – A Bright Yellow Potholder!

Cotton Rug Yarn – 1 skein yellow, 10 yards (or so) blue
Crochet Hook size G
large eyed darning or tapestry needle

This gay pot holder would be a perfect first project.
The finished size measures 7×7 inches. You will need 1 skein of cotton rug yarn in yellow, and 10 yards of blue for the edging.

The abbreviations used in the directions are explained in the colored box at the bottom. Refer to them for other projects you might do.

With yellow (or whatever color you choose), ch 31.
Row 1: 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each remaining ch—30 sc in row.
Row 2: Ch 1, turn. 1 sc in first sc and in each sc across row.
Rows 3—30: Same as row 2. At end of row 30, ch 1 with blue and turn. Cut off yellow.

Edging: With blue, 1 sc in 2nd st of 29th row, * ch 1, sk 1 st, 1 sc in next st of same row. Repeat from * across to next to last st of that row, ch 1, sc in next to last st, ch 1, sc in same st, ch 1, sc in same st (you now have 3 sc in same st for corner). Working along side, * ch 1, sk 1 row, 1 sc in 2nd st in from edge. Repeat from * to next corner. Work corners and remaining sides the same. At end of last side, ch 1, sc in same st first sc of edging was made in, ch 1, sc in same st, ch 1, sl st in first st of edging.

Loop: To make loop, ch 5, turn, sk 1 sc, sl st in next sc, turn, work 9 sc in loop, sl st in next sc. End off.
