Crochet Spring Shawl


Materials:
12 ounces 4 ply knitting worsted weight yarn
crochet hook Size I or size to give gauge

Check Your Gauge: 1 mesh to 1″

Beg at neck edge, ch 293 to measure approx 72″.
Row 1: Dc in 9th ch from hook, * ch 3, sk 3 ch, dc in next ch; rep from * to end (72 mesh), turn.

Row 2: Sl st in each of next 2 ch, * ch 3 (sk 1 ch, 1 dc & 1 ch), dc in next (center) ch of ch-3; rep from *, ending dc in 7th ch of ch-8 (1 mesh dec – 71 mesh), turn.





Row 3: Sl st in each of next 2 ch, * ch 3 (sk 1 ch, 1 dc &1 ch), dc in next (center) ch of ch-3; rep from *, ending dc in center ch of last ch-3.

Rows 4-37: Rep Row 3 (36 mesh).

Row 38: Sl st in each of next 2 ch, * ch 3 (sk 1 ch, 1 dc & 1 ch), dc in center ch of next ch-3; rep from * to last ch-3, do not work mesh in last ch-3 (2 mesh dec – 34 mesh).





Rows 39-54: Rep Row 38 (2 mesh).

Row 55: Rep Row 3 (1 mesh). Do not fasten off.





Edging: Ch 1, turn. Work 2 sc in first mesh, * sk 1 sl st, sc in next sl st, 2 sc in next mesh; rep from * to foundation chain, work 4 sc in corner mesh, across foundation ch work 2 sc in each mesh and 1 sc in each dc; work 2nd side to correspond to first (being sure to have same number of sc on each side), join with sl st to ch-1.

Next Rnd: Ch 3, work 4 dc in same sc with si st (5 dc counting ch-3), * sk 1 sc, sl st in next sc, sk 1 sc, work 5 dc in next sc; rep from * around, ending sk 1 sc, join with sl st to top of ch-3. Fasten off. For front tie, ch 150, thread through front as shown.
