Crochet Butterfly Placemat for your Spring Table

odd note: I’ve gotten a couple of comments from friends telling me that the picture of the placemat isn’t showing up? I’m not sure what’s happening – I can see it (I think 🙂 ) Anyway, I’ve uploaded it again – please let me know whether or not it’s there. If any of the other patterns don’t have visible pictures, I’d like to know about that too, so I can (try to) fix it. Thanks –

MATERIALS
Cotton Yarn (30 yd. skeins) – 6 Main Color (M C); 1 each Colors A and B
1 aluminum crochet hook Size G

Check Your GAUGE! 3 sts = 1 inch 2 rows = 1 inch

PLACE MAT: Using M C, ch 36.

Row 1: 1 s c in 2nd st from hook and in each of remaining sts, ch 3, turn – 35 sc.

Row 2: Skip the first s c, 1 d c in each of remaining s c, ch 1, turn.





Row 3: 1 s c in each d c and in top of turning ch, ch 3, turn – 35 s c.





Repeat last 2 rows 8 times more, ending with a s c row.

Work 1 row s c along each long edge of mat. Fasten off.

LARGE BUTTERFLY: BODY: Using Color A, ch 10; work 1 s c in 2nd st from hook and in each of remaining sts. Fasten off.

LARGE WING: Make 2. Ch 11, join with sl st to form ring. Work 1 s c in each of first 5 sts, 2 s c in next st, 1 s c in each of 5 remaining sts, join with sl st. Fasten off.

SMALL WING: Make 2: Ch 9, join with sl st to form ring. Work 1 s c in each of first 4 sts, 2 s c in next st, 1 s c in each of last 4 sts, join with sl st. Fasten off.

SMALL BUTTERFLIES: Make 2. BODY: Using Color B, ch 9; work 1 s c in 2nd st from hook and in each of remaining sts. Fasten off.





LARGE WING: Make 4: Work in same manner as small wings on first butterfly.

SMALL WING: Make 4. Ch 6; 1 s c in 2nd st from hook and in each of next 4 sts, ch 1, working on other side of starting ch, 1 s c in each of last 4 sts; join with sl st to first s c. Fasten off.

FINISHING: Sew butterflies in place and embroider antennae as shown in photograph.
