Crochet Striped Square Tote

Heavy weight craft or rug yarn – 2 two ounce skeins Color A, 1 two ounce skein Color B
crochet hook Size G or size to give gauge.

Check your Gauge: 4hdc to 1″; 3rows to 1″
Square is approx 3 ¾ “

TOTE is Approx 11″ wide

SQUARE (Make 13):
With A, ch 17.
Row 1: Hdc in 3rd ch from hook and in each ch, working off last hdc with B (15 hdc). Fasten off A.
Row 2: Ch 2 and being sure to work over ends, hdc in each hdc, working off last hdc with A (15 hdc). Fasten off B.
Row 3: Ch 2 and rep Row 2 working off last hdc with B. Fasten off A.
Rep Rows 2 & 3 for stripe pat for a total of 11 rows from beg. Fasten off.

Finishing: From wrong side, sl st or sew squares tog, alternating as in photograph.

For front handle, join A at right-hand top point of a square, ch 55, join to left-hand top point. Fasten off.
Work back handle in same way.

For outside edge rejoin A in first A joining, * hdc in each ch of handle, 14 hdc evenly spaced in rows down side, hdc in each hdc; rep from * once, join with sl st to first hdc. SI st in each hdc around, fasten off.
For inside edge of handles, rejoin A at right-hand top point, work 14 hdc evenly spaced in end of rows, hdc in each hdc, hdc in each ch along opposite side of handle, join to first hdc.
SI st in each hdc around. Fasten off.

Work other handle in same way.

Weave in all ends neatly on wrong side.
