Baby’s hot water bottle cover

Knit a neat little cover for baby’s hot water bottle. Keeps bottle warm, protects baby from discomfort. Bands are garter stitch, contrasting with stockinette. Shape top by binding off, then work ribbing “collar.”
SIZE: 5″ x 7 1/2″.
MATERIALS: Knitting worsted, two ounces
Knitting needles No.5. (Or English size 8.)
GAUGE: 11 sts = 2″.
PATTERN: K 6 rows (3 ridges) in garter st (k every row). Work 4 rows in stockinette st (k 1 row p 1 row). Repeat these 10 rows for pat.
SWEATER: Cast on 29 sts. Work even in pat for 6″ or until piece measures 1/2″ less than bottle from base to neck. Bind off 3 sts at beg of next 4 rows. Work in ribbing of k 1, pI for 1″. Bind off in ribbing. Make another piece in same way.
Sew pieces tog, leaving ribbing open at top and a 1″ openins at center of bottom seam for tab.
Cute and practical…I have some pink and some yellow cotton leftover from washcloth projects and the cover of my heating pad is getting very tatty. This would work a treat.

Oh, I love this. My grandmother has always said that if my child slept with a hot water bottle she would be more inclined to sleep alone.
