Knit Bolster Pillow

BOLSTER SIZE: 13″ long.

MATERIALS: Knitting worsted, 2 ozs. black (B) and 3 ozs. white (W).
Knitting needles No.8. (Or English size 5.)
Tapestry needle.
Foam rubber bolster, about 6″ diameter, 13″ long.

GAUGE: 4th sts = 1″; 6 rows = 1″ (stockinette st).

COVER: With W, cast on 72 sts. * Beg with a purl row, work in stockinette st (p 1 row, k 1 row) for 5 rows. (Note: To eliminate bulk along side edges of work, slip first st of each row, except when changing colors.)
First B Stripe: With B, k 2 rows, p 1 row, k 1 row.
Break off B.
With W, work 5 rows stockinette st, beg with a k row.
2nd B Stripe: With B, P 2 rows, k 1 row, p 1 row.
Break off B.
Repeat from * until 13 W stripes have been made.
Work first 3 rows of 13th B stripe. Bind off.

FINISHING: Break off B, leaving long end. Weave cast-on and bound-off edges tog. Weave in all yarn ends on wrong side.
With B, gather rows tog at one edge; fasten securely. Insert bolster, gather rows tog in same way at other edge.

Pompons (Make one W, one B): Wind yam around 3″ piece of cardboard about 100 times. With matching strand, tie all strands tog at one end; cut through strands at other end; trim to shape. Sew to end of bolster.
