Granny square baby bunting pattern





SIZE: Infants’.

MATERIALS: Sport yarn, 3 ply, about 8 ozs of desired colors. Crochet hook size F/3 (or English size 8). Knitting needles No. 4 (or English size 9). Five buttons.

GAUGE: Square No. 1 = 3-3/4″

BUNTING: Square No. 1 (make 8): With any desired color, ch 4, join with a sl st to form ring.
Rnd 1: Ch 4 (counts as dc, ch 1), * dc in ring, ch 1, repeat from * 6 times, join last ch 1 to 3rd ch of ch 4. End off.
Rnd 2: Join another color in a ch-1 sp, ch 3, 2 dc in same sp, ch 1, * 3 dc in next ch-1 sp, ch 1 repeat from * around, join with a sl st to top of ch 3 (8 groups of 3 dc in rnd). End off.
Rnd 3: Join another color in a ch-1 sp, ch 3, 2 dc in same sp, * 3 dc in next ch-1 sp, (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in next ch-1 sp, repeat from * around. end 3 dc in same sp with first 3 dc, ch 2, join with a sl st to top of ch 3. End off.
Rnd 4: Join another color in a ch-2 sp, ch 2, hdc in same sp, * hdc in each of next 9 dc, (2 hdc, ch 2, 2 hdc) in ch-2 sp, repeat from * around, end 2 hdc in same sp with first 2 hdc, ch 2, join with a sl st to top of ch 2. End off; leave end for sewing.

Square No. 2 (make 42): Work same as for square No. 1 to end of rnd 3. Leave end for sewing.

Square No. 3 (make 26): With any desired color, ch 4, join with a sl st to form ring.
Rnd 1: Ch 3, 2 dc in ring, ch 2, * 3 dc in ring, ch 2, repeat from * twice, join last ch 2 to top of ch 3 with a sl st (4 groups of 3 dc in ring). End off.
Rnd 2: Join another color in a ch-2 sp, ch 3, dc in same sp, * dc in each of next 3 dc, (2 dc, ch 3, 2 dc) in ch-2 sp, repeat from * around, end 2 dc in same sp with first 2 dc, ch 3, join with a sl st to top of ch 3. End off; leave end for sewing.





Square No. 4 (make 10): Work same as rnd 1 on square No. 3. End off.
Rnd 2: Join another color in a ch-2 sp, ch 2, hdc in same sp, * hdc in each of next 3 dc, (2 hdc, ch 2, 2 hdc) in ch-2 sp, repeat from * around, end 2 hdc in same sp with first 2 hdc, ch 2, join with a sl st to top of ch 2. End off; leave end for sewing.

Square No. 5 (make 10): With any desired color, ch 4, join with a sl st to form ring.
Rnd 1: Ch 3, make 2 dc in ring, ch 3, 3 dc in ring, repeat from * twice, join last ch 3 to top of first ch 3 with a sl st. End off; leave end for sewing.

Half Squares (make 2): With any desired color, ch 4.
Row 1: Dc in 4th ch from hook, ch 1, dc in same ch, repeat from * twice. End off; join another color. Ch 3, turn each row.
Row 2: 3 dc in first ch-1 sp, (ch 11 3 dc in next ch-1 sp) twice, ch 1, 3 dc in last sp. End off; join another color.
Row 3: 3 dc in 3rd ch from hook, 3 dc in next ch-1 sp, (3 dc, ch 3, 3 dc) in next ch-1 sp, 3 dc in next ch-1 sp, 3 dc in top of ch 3. End off; leave end for sewing.

Joining: Beg at lower edge of front, following chart, sew motifs tog catching. back lps of sts only. Do not join sleeves to body. Work 1 row dc across armhole edge of each sleeve; then join sleeves to body. Do not join side edges.

FINISHING: From right side, work 1 row hdc around neck and front opening edge.

Cuffs (make 2): With any desired color and No. 4 needles, cast on 28 sts. Work in ribbing of k 2, p 2 for 2″. Bind off loosely in ribbing. Sew bound-off edge of cuffs to sleeves. Fold work across shoulders; sew side and sleeve seams. From right side, beg at right side edge, work 1 row dc around lower edge. Join with a sl st to top of first dc. Ch 2, turn. Working across back sts only, work 3 rows dc, then 1 row sc. End off. Sew five buttons evenly spaced across lower front edge; spaces between dc on back edge form buttonholes.





TIES (make 4): With 2 strands of any desired colors, make ch 10″ long. Sew two ties to each edge of front opening as pictured. Tie ends.
