Directions are for Size 40. Changes for Sizes 42, 44 and 46 are in parentheses.

Materials required –
Heavy worsted weight yarn 24 (26, 28, 30) ounces
Knitting needles, one pair each size 9 and 10 1/2

Gauge Pattern stitch on size 10 1/2 needles – 4 sts. to 1 inch, 5 rows to 1 inch –
take the time to check your gauge

Back: With Size 9 needles cast on 80 (84-88-92).
K 1 and P 1 in ribbing for 3 inches.
Change to Size 10 1/2 needles.

Row 1 – Right Side: P 1 (3-5-7), * K 2, P 2 *, repeat from * to * across, end K 2, P 1 (3-5-7).
Row 2: K 1 (3-5-7), * P 2, K 2 *, repeat from * to * across, end P 2, K 1 (3-5-7).
Rows 3 through 6: Repeat Rows 1 and 2 twice more.
Row 7: P 1 (3-5-7), * K 2, P 1, then with yarn in back skip next st on left hand needle, insert right hand needle in front of next st as if to P then insert right hand needle into skipped st and K it, drop both sts from left hand needle for a right twist,
K 1, P 2, K 1, skip next st on left hand needle and K in back loop of next st then sl the skipped st as if to P dropping
both sts from left hand needle for a left twist,
P 1, K 2, P 2, repeat from * across, ending last repeat P 1 (3-5-7).
Row 8: K 1 (3-5-7), * P 2, K 1, P 3, K 2, P 3, K 1, P 2, K 2 *, repeat from * to * across, end last repeat K 1 (3-5-7).
Row 9: P 1 (3-5-7), * K 2, [right twist] twice, P 2, [left twist] twice, K 2, P 2, repeat from *, end last repeat P 1 (3-5-7). Row 10: K 1 (3-5-7), * P 6, K 2, repeat from *, end P 6, K 1 (3-5-7).
Row 11: P 1 (3-5-7), * K 1, [right twist] twice, K 1, P 2, K 1, [left twist] twice, K 1, P 2, repeat from *, end last repeat P 1 (3-5-7).
Row 12: As Row 10.
Row 13: P 1 (3-5-7), * [right twist] twice, K 2, P 2, K 2, [left twist] twice, P 2, repeat from *, end last repeat P 1 (3-5-7). Row 14: As Row 10.
Row 15: P 1 (3-5-7), * K 1, right twist, P 1, K 2, P 2, K 2, P 1, left twist, K 1, P 2, repeat from *, end last repeat P 1 (3-5-7).
Row 16: K 1 (3-5-7), * P 2, K 2, repeat from *, end P 2, K 1 (3-5-7).
Rows 17 and 18: Repeat Rows 1 and 2.

Repeat these 18 rows for pat, working to 16 inches or desired length from start.





Width across back is 20 (21-22-23) inches.

Armholes: Bind off 4 at beg of next 2 rows. Dec 1 each side every other row 4 times. Work in ribbing at each end of row where unable to work twist st pat. Work on the 64 (68-72-76) sts to 9 1/2 (10-10 1/2-11) inches straight above underarm.

Width across shoulders is 16 (17-18-19) inches.





Shoulders: Bind off 9 (9-10-10) at beg of next 2 rows then 9 (10-10-11) at beg of next 2 rows.
Work on the 28 (30-32-34) sts for 4 rows.
Bind off.

Front: Work same as back.

Sleeves: With Size 9 needles cast on 48 (50-52-54). K 1 and P 1 in ribbing for 3 inches. Change to Size 10 1/2 needles. Work in pat as follows:
Row 1 – Right side: P 1 (2-3-4), repeat from * to * of Row 1 of back, ending last repeat with P 1 (2-3-4).
Row 2: K 1 (2-3-4), repeat from * to * of Row 2 of back, ending last repeat with K 1 (2-3-4). Continue in pat as on back. Working added sts in reverse St St, inc 1 each side of every 8th row 8 times. Work on 64 (66-68-70) sts to 20 inches or desired length from start.

Width across sleeve is 16 (16 1/2-17-17 1/2) inches.

Sleeve Cap: Bind off 4 at beg of next 2 rows. Dec 1 each side every other row to 40 sts. Bind off 2 at beg of next 8 rows. Bind off rem’ing 24 sts. Seam shoulders. Sew sleeves in place then sew underarm and sleeve seams.
