Crochet Two Tone Vest – free pattern

TWO-TONE VEST









SIZES: Directions for small size (6-8). Changes for medium size (10-12) are in parentheses.

Fits Bust Sizes: 30 1/2″-31 1/2″” (32 1/2″-34″)

MATERIALS: Knitting worsted, 1 4-oz. skein each, or mohair,
2  1-oz. balls each of plum (A) and rose (B) or rust (A) and apricot (B).
Crochet hook size H.

GAUGE: 4 dc = 1″; 3 rows = 2″.





Note: Rib portion of vest is worked vertically; top portion is worked horizontally.

VEST: RIB PORTION (worked vertically):
Beg at left front edge (see Note), with A, ch 26.
Row 1: DC in 4th ch from hook and in each ch across — 24 dc, counting turning ch as 1 dc. Turn each row.
Row 2: Ch 3 (counts as 1 dc), sk first dc, dc in each of next 10 dc, ch 4, sk next 2 dc, dc in next dc and in each of next 9 dc, dc in top of ch 3.
Row 3: Ch 3, sk first dc, dc in each of next 8 dc, ch 4, sl st in ch-4 sp, ch 4, sk next 2 dc, dc in next dc and in each of next 7 dc, dc in top of ch 3.
Row 4: Ch 3, sk first dc, dc in each of next 6 dc, (ch 4, sl st in next ch-4 sp) twice, ch 4, sk next 2 dc, dc in each of next 6 dc, dc in top of ch 3.
Row 5: Ch 3, sk first dc, dc in each of next 4 dc, (ch 4, sl st in next ch-4 sp) 3 times, ch 4, sk next 2 dc, dc in each of next 4 dc, dc in top of ch 3.
Row 6: Ch 3, sk first dc, dc in each of next 2 dc, (ch 4, sl st in next ch-4 sp) 4 times, ch 4, sk next 2 dc, dc in each of next 2 dc, dc in top of ch 3.
Row 7: Ch 3, sk first dc, dc in each of next 2 dc, dc in each of next 2 ch, (ch 4, sl st in next ch-4 sp) 3 times, ch 4, sk first 2 ch of next ch-4 sp, dc in each of next 2 ch, dc in each of next 2 dc, dc in top of ch 3.
Row 8: Ch 3, sk first dc, dc in each of next 4 dc, dc in each of next 2 ch, (ch 4, sl st in next ch-4 sp) twice, ch 4, sk first 2 ch of next ch-4 sp, dc in each of next 2 ch, dc in each of next 4 dc, dc in top of ch3.
Row 9: Ch 3, sk first dc, dc in each of next 6 dc, dc in each of next 2 ch, ch 4, sl st in next ch-4 sp, ch 4, sk first 2 ch of next ch-4 sp, dc in each of next 2 ch, dc in each of next 6 dc, dc in top of ch 3.
Row 10: Ch 3, sk first dc, dc in each of next 8 dc, dc in each of next 2 ch, ch 2, sk first 2 ch of next ch-4 sp, dc in each of next 2 ch, dc in each of next 8 dc, dc in top of ch 3.
Row 11: Ch 3, sk first dc, dc in each dc and ch across, end dc in top of ch 3 – 24 dc.
For Medium Size Only: Row 12: Ch 3, sk first dc, dc in each dc across, end dc in top of ch 3. Repeat rows 2-12 twice, rows 2-11 once — 44 rows.
For Small Size Only: Repeat rows 2-11 3 times – 41 rows.

Check gauge; piece should measure about 27 1/4″ (29 1/4″) from start.

YOKE (worked horizontally): Join B in top edge of last row.
Row 1 (mark for right side): Ch 1, sc in corner, 2 sc in end of each row across – 83 (89) sc. Ch 2, turn.
First Front Triangle: Sk first sc, (yo hook, pull up a Ip in next sc, yo and through 2 Ips on hook) twice, yo and through 3 Ips on hook, * Ch 1, yo hook, pull up a Ip in last sc worked in, yo and through 2 Ips on hook, (yo hook, pull up a Ip in next sc, yo and through 2 Ips on hook) twice, yo and through 4 Ips on hook, repeat from * 7 (8) times – 9 (10) cluster dc. Ch 2, turn.
Row 2: Yo hook, pull up a Ip in ch-1 sp, yo and through 2 Ips on hook, yo hook, pull up a Ip in top of cluster dc, yo and through 2 Ips on hook, yo and through 3 Ips on hook, * ch 1, yo hook, pull up a Ip in st last worked in, yo and through 2 Ips on hook, yo hook, pull up a Ip in ch-1 sp, yo through 2 Ips on hook, yo hook. : up a Ip in next cluster dc, yo through 2 Ips on hook, yo and through remaining 4 Ips on hook, repeat from * 6 (7) times – 8 (9) cluster dc. Ch turn.
Row 3: Repeat row 2 having 1 cluster dc less — 7 (8) cluster dc. Ch turn.
Rows 4-10 (11): Repeat row 3 – 1 cluster dc remains. Ch 52 at end last row for tie.

Tie: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and each ch across. End off.

Back Yoke: Sk 2 sc on last long row; join B in next sc, ch 2, (yo hook pull up a Ip in next sc, yo and through 2 Ips on hook) twice, yo and through 3 Ips on hook, * ch 1, yo hook, pull up a Ip in last sc worked in, yo and through 2 Ips on hook, (yo hook, pull up a Ip in next sc, yo and through Ips on hook) twice, yo and through Ips on hook, repeat from * 18 (19)  times — 20 (21) cluster dc. Ch 2, turn.
Rows 2 and 3: Work same as for rows 2 and 3 on front triangle — 18′ (19) cluster dc. Ch 2, turn.

First Back Triangle: Next Row: Work 6 cluster dc. Ch 2, turn. Work in pat having 1 cluster dc less each row until 1 cluster dc remains. Ch 52 at end of last row for tie.

Tie: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across. End off.

Second Back Triangle: Join B in 7th cluster dc from end on last back yoke long row. Ch 2, work in pat across – 6 cluster dc. Complete same as for first back triangle.

Second Front Triangle: Sk 2 sc on last long sc row, join B in next sc. work in pat across — 9 (10) cluster dc. Complete same as for first front triangle.

Edging: From right side, join A in lower edge of one front triangle. Working around triangles, being careful to keep work flat, * work 3 sl sts, ch 3, sl st in 3rd ch from hook (picot made), repeat from * across yoke, end lower edge of other front triangle. End off.

Front Tie: With B, make chain 44″ long; sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across. End off. Beg at lower edge of front, lace tie through front rib portion as pictured.

Tassels (make 2): Wind B 20 times around a 3″ strip of cardboard. Tie one end; cut other end. Wind B around tassel, 1/2″ below tied end. Attach a tassel to each end of front tie.
