Granny Square Crochet – Small Bolster





SIZE: About 14″ long.

MATERIALS:
Sports yarn, 8 ozs. main color (MC) and 4 ozs. contrasting color (CC).
Crochet hook size D.
Covered bolster form.









COVER: With MC, ch 8, join with sl st to form a ring.
Rnd 1: Working into ring, make sc, ch 2, 2 dc, (ch 2, 3 dc) 5 times, ch 2, end sl st in 2nd ch, sl st in each of next 2 dc—6 dc groups.
Rnd 2: In first ch-sp, make sc, ch 1, and 2 dc, ch 2, 3 dc, * ch 2, 3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc in next ch-sp, repeat from *, end ch 2, sl st in 2nd ch, sl st in each of next 2 dc—12 dc groups.
Rnd 3: In first ch-sp, make sc, ch 2, and 2 dc, * ch 2, 3 dc in next ch-sp, repeat from *, end ch 2, sl st in 2nd ch, sl st in each of next 2 dc.
Rnd 4: In first ch-sp, make sc, ch 2, and 2 dc, in next ch-sp make (ch 2, 3 dc) twice, ch 2, * 3 dc in next ch-sp, ch 2, (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in next ch-sp, ch 2, repeat from *, end sl st in 2nd ch—18 dc groups. Cut yarn.
Rnd 5: With MC, same as Rnd 3, end sl st in 2nd ch.
Rnd 6: Sc in each dc, sc in ch-sp, inc 8 sc evenly spaced around (work 2 dc in each of 8 ch-sp), end sl st
in first sc—80 sc. Fasten off.
Rnd 7: With CC, inserting hook into back lps, ch 2, 2 dc in same st as for si st in Rnd 6, ch 2, * sk 3 sts, 3 dc in next st, ch 2, repeat from *, end sl st in 2nd ch, sl st in each of next 2 dc.
Working as for Rnd 3, work 2 more rnds with CC, then work stripe pat as follows: 1 rnd MC, 3 rnds CC, * 3 rnds MC, 1 rnd CC, 3 rnds MC, 3 rnds CC, 1 rnd MC, 3 rnds CC, repeat from * once.
(Note: Always cut yarn if more than 1 rnd is to be made with a different color.)
Fasten off after second repeat from *.
End: With MC, make another piece same as Rnds 1 through 6.

FINISHING: Insert pillow into cover.
Sew end piece to main cover with MC, inserting needle in back lp of sts.

Tassels: Make 2. With CC, wind yarn around an 8″ piece of cardboard to desired fullness. Tie at one end; clip yarn at other. Remove cardboard. Wrap another strand around tightly about 1″ below tied end; tie securely. Trim cut ends. Sew tassel to center of each end.
