Crochet Granny Squares – A Floor Pillow

SIZE: 29″ square.

MATERIALS:
Knitting worsted, 2 ounces each orange (color A), yellow (B), purple (C), pink (D), red (E) and navy (F). Aluminum crochet hook size G, or size required to crochet to gauge.
1 yard 72″-wide orange felt.
Five 1 -pound bags kapok or ten 1/2 -pound bags Dacron.





GAUGE: Shell, ch 1, and shell = 1 3/4″





PILLOW SQUARE: With A, starting at center, ch 6. Join with sl st to form ring.
Rnd 1: Ch 3, work 2 dc in ring, (ch 1, 3-dc shell in ring) 3 times; ch 1; join with sl st to top of ch-3. Break off.
Rnd 2: With B, sl st in any ch-1 sp, ch 3, in same sp work 2 dc, ch 1 and 3 dc (first corner), * ch 1, in next ch-1 sp work 3 dc, ch 1 and 3 dc (another corner). Repeat from * twice more; ch 1 ; join. Break off.
Rnd 3: With C, sl st in any ch-1 corner sp and work a first corner in same sp, * ch 1, 3-dc shell in next ch-1 sp, ch 1, work corner in next corner sp. Repeat from * twice more; ch 1, shell in next sp, ch 1 ; join. Break off
Rnd 4: With D, sl st in any ch-1 corner sp and work a first corner in same sp, * (ch 1, shell in next ch-1 sp) twice; ch 1, work corner in next corner sp. Repeat from * twice more; (ch 1, shell in next sp) twice; ch 1; join. Break off.
Rnd 5: With B, sl st in any ch-1 corner sp and work a first corner in same sp, * ch 1, work shell in next ch-1 sp. Repeat from * to next corner, ch 1, work a corner in next corner sp. Continue around in pattern; join. Break off.
Repeat Rnd 5 working as follows:
1 rnd each E, F, A, D, C, B, F, E, and A: then work 2 rnds each D, B, C, E, A, and F. Break off.

ASSEMBLE:
Cut two 30″ squares of felt ( 1/2″ seam allowance included). Pin or baste granny square on one felt piece, having yarn edge just over seam line. With right sides of felt pieces facing and granny square sandwiched between, stitch around three sides, catching yarn edge in stitching. Leave 16″ open on fourth side. Turn and stuff; sew opening closed.
