Crochet Granny Squares – Quick Crochet Pillow and Granny Square Pillow

QUICK CROCHET PILLOW

SIZE: 12″ square, not including edging.





MATERIALS:
American Thread “Aunt Lydia’s” Heavy Rug Yarn, 70-yd. skeins, 2 skeins A, 1 skein each B and C.
Plastic crochet hook size Q.
(Note: To achieve gauge, work more tightly or loosely as needed.)
Knife edge pillow form, 12″ square.
1/2 yd. lining fabric.





GAUGE: Each motif =12″ square.

NOTE: Work with 3 strands held tog throughout.

MOTIFS: Make 2.
With B ch 2, work 8 sc in first st of ch, cut yarn.
Do not join rnds; place a marker at beg of each rnd. When changing colors, work last half of st with new color.
Rnd 2: Working in back lp of sts for Rnds 2 through 5, with C, * 3 sc in next st, 1 sc in next st, repeat from * around; cut yarn.
Rnd 3: With A, work 1 sc in each sc around, working 3 sc in center st at each corner; cut yarn.
Rnd 4: With B, work as for Rnd 3; cut yarn.
Rnd 5: With C, work as for Rnd 3; cut yarn.
Rnd 6: With A, work as for Rnd 3; cut yarn.

FINISHING: Cover pillow form.
Joining: Join A in corner working through both sections and through both lps of sts. * ch 3, 2 dc in same sp, sk 2 sc of both sections, sc in next sc, repeat from * along 3 sides, insert pillow, then join 4th side in same manner.

GRANNY SQUARE PILLOW

SIZE: 12″ square, not including fringe.

MATERIALS:
American Thread “Aunt Lydia’s” Heavy Rug Yarn, 1 skein color A, 3 skeins color B, 4 skeins color C.
Plastic crochet hook size Q.
(Note: To achieve gauge, work more tightly or loosely as needed.)
Knife edge pillow form, 12″ square.
1/2 yd. lining fabric.

GAUGE: Each motif = 12″ square.

MOTIFS: Make 2.
Holding 3 strands tog, with A ch 4, join to form a ring.
Rnd 1: Ch 3, 2 dc in ring, * ch 1, 3 dc in ring, repeat from * twice, ch 1, join in 3rd st of ch; cut yarn.
Rnd 2: Holding 3 strands tog, join B in ch-1 lp, ch 3, 2 dc, ch 1, 3 dc in same lp, * 3 dc, ch 1, 3 dc in next Ip, repeat from * twice, join in 3rd st of ch.
Rnd 3: Sl st to corner lp, ch 3, 2 dc, ch 1, 3 dc in same Ip, * 3 dc in next sp between corners, 3 dc, ch 1, 3 dc in next Ip, repeat from * twice, 3 dc in next sp, join in 3rd st of ch; cut yarn.
Rnd 4: Holding 3 strands tog, join C in corner Ip, ch 3, 2 dc, ch 1, 3 dc in same Ip, * 3 dc in each of next 2 sps, 3 dc, ch 1. 3 dc in corner Ip, repeat from * twice. 3 dc in each of next 2 sps, join in 3rd st of ch: cut yarn.

FINISHING:Cover pillow form.
Joining: Using six 14″ lengths of C for each fringe, join the two motifs as follows
Working through both Ips of sts of last row. fold strands in half, insert hook through corner st, pull Ip through, then pull ends through Ip. Work a fringe in each st of 3 sides, insert pillow, then join 4th side in same manner.
Next Row: * Take half of one group of fringe and half of next group and tie about 3/4″ below first tie, repeat from * around. Trim fringe evenly.
