Crochet Granny Squares – Flingy Tri-Square Shawl





MATERIALS: Coats and Clark’s knitting worsted, 2 ounces each wood brown (color A), light gold (B), copper (C), coffee (D), and Sahara (E); 3 ounces each bisque (F), dk. olive (G). and sandstone (H); 4 ounces taupe ( I ) : 8 ounces light natural (J).
Aluminum crochet hook size F, or size required to crochet to gauge.

GAUGE: Each square measures 24″.





SQUARES: Make 3.

With A. starting at center, ch 6. Join with sl st to form ring.
Rnd 1: Ch 3, work 2 dc in ring, (ch 3, work 3 dc in ring) 3 times; ch 3; join with sl st to 3rd ch of starting ch-3, sl st in next 2 dc, sl st in ch-3 sp.
Rnd 2: Ch 3, in same ch-3 sp work 1 dc, ch 3 and 3 dc (first corner), * ch 2, in next ch-3 sp work 3 dc, ch 3 and 3 dc (another corner). Repeat from * twice more; ch 2; sl st to join; sl st in next 2 dc, sl st in ch-3 sp.
Rnd 3: Work a first corner in same ch-3 sp, * ch 2, 3 dc in next ch-sp, ch 2, work corner in next corner sp. Repeat from * twice more; ch 2, 3 dc in next ch-sp; ch 2, sl st to close, sl st in next 2 dc, sl st in next sp.
Rnd 4: Work a first corner in same ch-sp, * (ch 2, 3 dc in next ch-sp) twice; ch 2, work corner in next sp. Repeat from * twice more; (ch 2, 3 dc in next ch-sp) twice; ch 2, sl st to join. Break off.
Rnd 5: With B, sl st in any corner, work a first corner in corner sp, * (ch 2, 3 dc in next ch-sp) 3 times; ch 2, work corner in next corner sp. Repeat from * twice more; (ch 2, 3 dc in next ch-sp) twice; ch 2, sl st to close, sl st in next 2 dc, sl st in next sp.
Continue working in this manner, using 3 ch between corner shells and 2 dc between all other shells. Change color every 2nd rnd. following B with C. D. E. F. G. H, and I. in that order. Fasten off.





ASSEMBLE: With right sides of squares facing you, number left side of 2nd square No. 1, and top edge No. 2.
Hold first and 2nd squares together with wrong sides facing. With J. join along side No. 1. working a row of sc through both squares. Join 3rd square to 2nd square along side No. 2. (Squares form V-shape.)
Work row of dc along inner edges (neck and front edges).

FRINGE: Cut 4 strands J for each tassel. Hold strands together and fold in half. Draw folded end through a sp on outside edge of shawl, then draw ends through lp at folded end; tighten. Attach a tassel in each sp around outside edge.
