Knit Infant’s Afghan in Basket Stitch





MATERIAL

Worsted Weight Yarn – 122 yards per ounce
12 ounces White
10 ounces Color
Knitting Needles 14 inches long, size 3

Instructions

With white yarn cast on 135 stitches.
Row 1—
Knit 5, purl 5, * knit 15, purl 5, repeat from * to end of row, ending with purl 5, knit 5.
Row 2—Purl 5, knit 5, * purl 15, knit 5, repeat from * to end of row, ending with knit 5, purl 5.
Row 3—Same as row 1.
Row 4—Knit plain.
Row 5—* Knit 15, purl 5, repeat from * to end of row, ending with knit 15.
Row 6—* Purl 15. knit 5, repeat from * to end of row, ending with purl 15.
Row 7—Same as row 5.
Row 8—Knit plain.

These 8 rows form the pattern, work 4 patterns,join the colored yarn and knit 3 inches plain, join the white yarn and work in pattern until work measures 30 inches, finish second end same as first.





Border — With colored yarn pick up the stitches at one end, knit plain, increasing 1 stitch at each end every other row until border measures 3 1/2 inches, repeat on all 4 sides, sew the corners neatly together.
