Mittens Knit on Two Needles – I Love Ombre Yarn!

Medium and Large sizes

MATERIALS
Ombre Knitting Worsted Weight Yarn, 4 oz
1 pair knitting needles No. 5 for medium size
1 pair knitting needles No. 6 for large size

RIGHT MITTEN: Cast on 38 sts. Work in ribbing of K1, P1, for 3 1/2 inches. K1 row, P1 row, for 6 rows, then start thumb gusset as follows:
Row 1: K18, increase 1 st in each of next 2 sts, K18.
Row 2: Purl.
Row 3: K18, increase 1 st in next st, K2, increase 1 st in next st, K18.
Row 4: Purl.
Row 5: K18, increase 1st in next st, K4, increase 1 st in next st, K18.
Row 6: Purl.
Continue increasing in the above manner having 2 more sts between increases every other row until there are 14 sts between increased sts.
P1 row after last increased row, then work as follows: K19; place on st holder. K2 tog, K14 (thumb sts). Place remaining 19 sts on 2nd st holder. Work back and forth on the 15 thumb sts for 14 rows. Decrease tip of thumb as follows:
Row 1:
* PI, P2 tog; repeat from * across row.
Row 2: K2 tog across row. Draw all sts tog and fasten off. Sew thumb seam.
Place the 19 sts from first st holder onto needle. Attach yarn and pick
up 3 sts at base of thumb. Place remaining 19 sts from 2nd st holder
onto left hand needle and K across row. Work back and forth in st st
until piece measures 3 3/4 inches from base of thumb or desired length.





Decrease tip of mitten as follows (right side); K1, K2 tog, K14, sl 1 st, K1, psso, K2tog, K1, K2tog, K14, sl 1st, K1, psso, K1.
Row 2: Purl.
Row 3: K1, K2 tog, K12, sl 1 st, K1, psso, K2, K2 tog, K12, sl 1 st, K1, psso, K1.
Row 4: Purl.
Row5: K1, K2 tog, K10, sl 1 st, K1, psso, K2, K2 tog, K10, sl 1 st, K1, psso, K1.
Row 6: Purl.
Row 7: K1, K2 tog, K8, sl 1 st, K1, psso, K2, K2 tog, K8, sl 1 st, K1, psso, K1.
Row 8: Purl.
Weave or sew tip of mitten together. Sew side seam.

LEFT MITTEN: Work to correspond to right mitten.
