Men’s Mittens – Pair #1





Medium size

MATERIALS
Knitting Worsted Weight Yarn, 4 ounces
1 pair knitting needles No. 8

RIGHT MITTEN: With double strands of yarn cast on 29 sts. Work
in ribbing of K1, P1, for 3 1/2 inches. P1 row increasing to 32 sts. K1
row, PI row for 4 rows, then start thumb gusset as follows:
Row 1: K15, increase 1 st in each of next 2 sts, K15.
Row 2: Purl.
Row 3: K15, increase 1 st in next st, K2, increase 1 st in next st, K15.
Row 4: Purl.
Row 5: K15, increase 1 st in next st, K4, increase 1 st in next st, K15.
Row 6: Purl.
Continue increasing in the above manner until there are 8 sts between increased sts. P 1 row after last increased row, then work as follows: K15; place on st holder.
K across next 10 sts, K2 tog (11 thumb sts); place remaining 15 sts on 2nd st holder.
Work back and forth on the 11 thumb sts for 10 rows.
Decrease tip of thumb as follows:
Row 1: P2 tog across row ending P1.
Row 2: K2 tog 3 times. Draw all sts tog and fasten off. Sew thumb seam.
Place the 15 sts from first st holder onto needle. Attach yarn and pick
up 1 st at base of thumb. Place remaining 15 sts from 2nd st holder onto left hand needle and K across row. Work back and forth on the
31 sts until piece measures 4 inches or desired length from base of
thumb.
Decrease tip of mitten as follows:
Row 1: K1, K2 tog, * K2, K2 tog; repeat from * across row.
Row 2: Purl.
Row 3: K2 tog, * K1, K2 tog; repeat from * across row.
Row 4: Purl.
Row 5: K1; then K2 tog across row.
Row 6: Purl.
Row 7: K2 tog across row. Draw yarn through all sts and fasten off. Sew side seam.

LEFT MITTEN: Work to correspond to right mitten.

Medium and Large sizes

MATERIALS
Knitting Worsted Weight Yarn 4 oz
1 pair knitting needles No. 4 for medium size
1 pair knitting needles No. 5 for large size

RIGHT MITTEN: Cast on 44 sts. Work in ribbing of K2, P2, for 3 1/2 inches. K1 row, P1 row, for 8 rows, then start thumb gusset as
follows:
Row 1: K21, increase 1 st in each of next 2 sts, K21.
Row 2: Purl.
Row 3: K21, increase 1 st in next st, K2, increase 1 st in nextst, K21.
Row 4: Purl.
Row 5: K21, increase 1st in next st, K4, increase 1 st in next st, K21.
Row 6: Purl.
Continue increasing in the above manner having 2 more sts between increases every other row until there are 14 sts between increased sts. P1 row after last increased row, then work as follows: K22; place on st holder. K16 (thumb sts). Place remaining 22 sts on 2nd st holder. Work back and forth on the 16 thumb sts for 16 rows. Decrease tip of thumb as follows:
Row 1: * P1, P2 tog; repeat from * across row ending P1.
Row 2: K2 tog across row ending K1. Draw all sts tog and fasten off. Sew thumb seam.
Place the 22 sts from first st holder onto needle. Attach yarn and
pick up 3 sts at base of thumb. Place remaining 22 sts from 2nd st
holder onto left hand needle and K across row. Work back and forth
in st st until piece measures 4 inches or desired length from base of
thumb. Decrease tip of mitten as follows (right side): K1, K2 tog,
K17, sl st, K1, psso, K2tog, K1, K2tog, K17, sl st, K1, psso, K1.
Row 2: Purl.
Row 3: K1, K2 tog, K15, sl st, K1, psso, K2, K2 tog, K15, sl st, K1, psso, K1.
Row4: Purl.
Row 5: K1, K2 tog, K13, sl st, K1, psso, K2, K2 tog, K13, sl st, K1, psso, K1.
Row 6: Purl.
Row 7: K1, K2 tog, K1, sl st, K1,psso, K2, K2 tog, K1, sl st, K1, psso, K1.
Row8:Purl.
Row9:K1, K2tog, K9,sl st, K1, psso, K2, K2 tog, K9, sl st, K1, psso, K1.
Row 10: Purl.
Weave or sew tip of mitten together. Sew side seam.





LEFT MITTEN: Work to correspond to right mitten.
