Children’s Sweater Patterns – Crochet Pullover with Long or Short Sleeves

Instructions are for size 6. Changes for sizes 8, 10, 12 and 14 are in parentheses.

Materials: 4 ply worsted weight yarn 8 (8 -8 – 10 – 10) ounces
Neck zipper
crochet hook size G or size to give gauge.

Gauge: 5 pats (10 hdc) = 3″; 2 rows (1 pat & 1 hdc row) = 1″.

Finished Measurements
Bust: 26(28-30-32-34)”
Back at Shoulders: 11(11 1/2 -12 1/2 -12 1/2 -13 1/2)”
Sleeve at underarm: 10 1/2( 11 -11 1/2 -12- 12 1/2)”

Pattern Stitch: Worked on an even number of hdc.
Row 1 (right side): Yo hook, draw up a Ip at base of ch-2, * yo, sk 1 st, draw up a Ip in next st, yo and thru 4 Ips, yo and thru 2 Ips, ch 1, yo, draw up a Ip in same st as last Ip; rep from *, end last rep, ch 1, dc in same st as last Ip. Ch 3, turn.
Row 2: Hdc in first ch-1 sp, * hdc in next st, hdc in next ch-1 sp; rep from *, end hdc in last st, dc under tch, ch 2, turn.
Row 3: Yo, draw up a Ip in first hdc, rep from * of Row 1, end dc in 2nd ch of tch, ch 3, turn.
Rep Rows 2 & 3 for Pat St.

BACK: Ch 46(48-52-56-58) to measure approx 13 1/2 (14 1/2 – 14 1/2 -15 1/2 – 16 1/2 )”.
Border – Row 1: Hdc in 3rd ch from hook and in each ch to end – 44(46-50-54-56) hdc. Ch 2, turn.
Row 2: Hdc in each hdc, do not work in tch, ch 2, turn.
Rep Row 2 twice more.
Work in Pat St having 22(23-25-27-28) pats in row to 11(12 1/2 -13-14 -15)” from beg, or desired length to underarm, end with Pat Row 2.

Armholes — Row 1: SI st in each of 4(4-4-6-6) hdc, ch 2, yo, draw up a Ip in same st with ch-2, sk next st, continue pat to last 4(4-4-6-6) hdc, dc in next st – 18(19-21-21-22) pats. Ch 3, turn.
Row 2: Work Pat Row 2 – 36(38-42-42-44) hdc.
Continue pat until armholes measure 2(2-3-3-3)” end with pat Row 3. Divide for back opening.

Left Side of Back – Next Row: Work 18 (19-21-21-22) hdc. For sizes 6 and 14 only, work hdc in same sp with last hdc. Keeping continuity of pat, work even until armhole measures approx 5(5 1/2-6-6 1/2-7)”, end at armhole edge, ch 1, turn.





Shoulder: SI st in each of 5(5-6-6-6) sts, work pat across next 5(5-6-6-6) sts. Fasten off. Unworked sts are for back of neck.





Right Side of Back: Join yarn in next st of last complete row. Work to correspond to left side, reversing all shaping.

FRONT: Work same as back (omitting opening) until armholes measure
3 (3 1/2 -4 – 4 1/2 -5)” ending with Pat Row 3 –
36(38-42-42-44) sts.





Neck- Row1: Work until 12(12-14-14-14) hdc, dc in same place with last hdc. Ch 3, turn.
Row 2: Work Pat Row 3. Ch 3, turn.
Row 3: Work until there are 10(10-12-12-12) hdc, dc under tch. Continue pat to same length as back to shoulder. Shape shoulder as on back. Beg at other armhole edge count 6(6-7-7-7) ch-1 sps, join yarn in last sp counted, ch 2.

Row 1: Hdc in same place with ch-2, work 11(11-13-13-13) more hdc,
ch 3, turn.
Row 2: Work Pat Row 3 – Ch 3, turn.
Row 3: Sk dc, ch-1 and next st, work pat Row 2 to end- 10(10-12-12-12) hdc.
Complete same as first side.

Note: All incs for sleeves are worked on Pat Row 2 by working 2 hdc in first and last st of row. Decs for sleeve are worked on Pat Row 3 by skipping first 2 sts of row, working pat to last 2 sts, sk last 2 sts, dc in tch (2 sts dec each side).

LONG SLEEVES: Ch 24(24-26-26-28) to measure approx 7 (7-7 1/2 -7 1/2 -8)”. Work 4 rows border as on back. Work 3 rows pat.
Inc 1 st each side of next row and rep incs every 2nd row 5(6-5-5-4) times, every 4th row 0(0-1-2-3) times.
Work on 34 (36-38- 40-42) hdc- 17(18-19-20-21) pats – until sleeve measures 11(12-13-15-16)” from beg or desired length to underarm, end with Pat Row 2.

Sleeve Cap — Row 1: Same as Row 1 of back armholes. Dec 2 sts each side of next row and rep decs every 2nd row 3(3-4-4-5) times more. Work 1 row even. Fasten off.

Finishing: Sew underarm, shoulder and sleeve seams. Set in sleeves.

Neckband: Beg at left side of back opening, from right side, work hdc around neck, spacing sts to keep edge flat and holding neck to desired size. Ch 2, turn.
Work 2 rows of hdc in each hdc. Ch 2, turn at end of 2nd row, fasten off at end of 3rd row.
Join yarn at neck edge on right edge of opening. Work sc on edges of opening. Fasten off. Sew in zipper so that it does not show.
