Granny Squares – crochet a Popcorn Granny Square Afghan

The circles within the squares of this afghan use a raised design called the popcorn stitch for a textured effect. The popcorn stitch, made of five double crochet stitches (Figure C), is easy to master. This afghan was made using only two colors, with the color sequence reversed in the squares used as a border, to create a dramatic design.
