Crochet for Summer – Woman’s Top and Pants

SIZE: Top Measurement at bustline: 30″, 33″, 36″, 39″

Top is planned for 17″ to underarm, 9-1/2″ in pattern, plus a 7-1/2″ border which is added later.

Pants measurement at hip: 30″, 33″, 36″, 39″

Pants are planned for 30″ from the bottom to the crotch, 22-1/2″ in pattern, plus a 7-1/2″ border which is added later.

GAUGE: 2 groups of 3 dc, ch 2 = 3″ – 4 rows = 3″

MATERIALS:
Color A – 5, 6, 6, 6 – 4 oz. pull-skeins Knitting Worsted weight yarn
Color B – 1 – 4 oz. pull skein Knitting Worsted weight yarn
Color C – 1 – 4 oz. pull-skein Knitting Worsted weight yarn
“K” crochet hook





TOP: BODY: Chain 100, 11 0, 120, 130. Join with a slip stitch to form a ring, taking care not to twist.
ROUND 1: Ch 3, 1 DC in each of the first 2 chain, * ch 2, skip 2 chain, 1 DC in each of the next 3 chain, repeat from the * around, ending ch 2, skip 2 chain, 1 slip stitch in the top of the ch 3. There will be 20, 22, 24, 26 groups around. Piece will measure 30″, 33″, 36″, 39 “.
ROUND 2: Ch 3, turn, (work back across the row, rather than around, joining at the end) 2 DC under the first ch 2 space, * ch 2, 3 DC under the next ch 2 space, repeat from the 1 around, ending ch 2, join with a slip st to the top of the ch 3. Repeat row 2 for pattern. Work even in pattern until piece measures about 9-1/2″.

BACK: ROW 3: Ch 3, turn, 2 DC under the first ch 2 space, * ch 2, 3 DC under the next ch 2 space, repeat from the * 7, 8, 9, 10 times.
ROW 4: Ch 4, turn, * 3 DC under the ch 2 space, ch 2, repeat from * across, ending 1 DC in the top of the ch 3. Repeat rows 3 and 4 until the armhole is 9, 10, 10, 11 rows long. End off.

FRONT: Leaving out two 3 DC (and one ch 2) groups, attach yarn to the next ch 2 space. Starting with Row 3, work even for 6 rows.
ROW 5: Ch 3, turn, 2 DC under the ch 2 space, * ch 2, 3 DC under the ch 2 space, repeat from the * 1, 1, 2, 2 times.
ROW 6: Ch 4, turn, 3 DC under the ch 2 space, * ch 2, 3 DC under the next ch 2 space, repeat from the * 0, 0, 1, 1 times, ch 2, 1 DC in the top of the ch 3. Work even for 1, 2, 2, 3 more rows. End off.

Work the other side to correspond.









FINISHING: Sew shoulder seams. Work 1 row of SC around the neck and the armhole edges.

BOTTOM BORDER: With main color, attach yarn to the bottom of the starting chain.
ROUND 1: Ch 4, 1 DC in the first ch (of the ch 2 space), 1 DC between the first and second DC (of the 3 DC group), 1 DC in the first ch (of the ch 2 space), ch 1, 1 DC in the same first ch, repeat from the * around, ending 1 DC between the first and second DC, join with a slip st to the 3rd ch (of the starting ch 4).
ROUND 2: Ch 5, 1 DC under the ch 1 space, * 1 front DC (yarn over the hook, insert the hook from the front towards the back, and then from the back towards the front, around the center DC, finish the DC as usual), 1 DC, oh 2, 1 DC under the ch 1 space, repeat from the * around, ending 1 front DC, join with a slip stitch to the 3rd ch.
ROUND 3: Ch 3, 1 DC under the ch 2 space, ch 2, 2 DC under the same ch 2 space, * 1 front DC, 2 DC, ch 2, 2 DC under the ch 2 space, repeat from the * around, ending 1 front DC, join with a slip stitch to the 3rd ch.

Repeating Round 3, work 1 more round with the main color, 1 round of Color B, 1 round of main color, 1 round of Color C, 1 round of main color, 1 round of Color B, 1 round of main color, 1 round of Color C, and 1 round of main color. End off.

PANTS: LEG: Chain 70, 75, 80, 85. Join with a slip stitch to form a ring, taking care not to twist. Work Row 1 of the top. There are 14, 15, 16, 17 groups around. Piece will measure 21 “, 22-1/2″, 24″, 25-1/2″. Work Row 2 of the top. Repeat Row 2 for pattern. Work even in pattern until piece measures about 22-1/2”. End off.

Make 2 pieces. Holding the two pieces with right sides together, not matching the spaces (3 DC should be next to a ch 2) sew 4 spaces together to form the crotch. Attach yarn to where the pieces are joined (back) and work in pattern around; 24, 26, 28, 30 groups. Decrease Round 3, ch 3, turn, 1 DC under the ch 2 space, ch 2, work even in pattern to the ch 2 space before the center of the front, 2 DC under the ch 2 space, 2 DC under the next ch 2 space (a decrease), work even in pattern around to the back, ending 2 DC under the last ch 2 space, join with a slip stitch to the 3rd ch (a decrease).

ROUND 4: Ch 3, turn, 2 DC under the ch 2 space, work in pattern around, ending 3 DC under the last ch 2 space, ch 2, join with a slip stitch to the 3rd ch. Repeat rounds 3 and 4 once more; 20, 22, 24, 26 groups. Work even for 2 rows.

ROUND 5: Ch 3, turn, 2 DC under the space, * ch 1, 3 DC under the next space, repeat from * around, ending ch 1, join with a slip st to the top of the ch 3. Repeat Row 5 until 10″ above the joining.

ROW 6: Ch 3, turn, * 1 DC under the ch 1 space, 1 DC in the center DC, repeat from ‘ around, ending join with a slip stitch to the 3rd ch. Work 2 more rows of DC. End off. With a double strand of yarn make a 45″ chain. Weave in the center row of DC.

BOTTOM BORDER: Work the same as the top.
