Child’s Angora Mittens (these bring back warm memories …)

Small: 2-4 Year
Medium: 5-7 Year
Large: 8-10 Year

Instructions are for small size, changes for medium and large sizes are in parentheses.

MATERIALS: Fleisher’s or Bucilla 100% Imported French Angora, three 10 gram balls.

“Boye” Sock Needles, 1 set Size 4.

GAUGE: 13 sts = 2 inches

CUFF: Cast on 32 (36-40) sts; divide on 3 needles, join.

Work k 2, p 2 ribbing for 2 (2-2 ½) ins., decreasing 1 (2-2) sts in last round; 31 (34-38) sts.

HAND: K 3 rounds even.





Hand: K even for 3 (3 3) rounds

First inc. round for thumb gore: Inc. 1 st in first st (first thumb st), k 1, inc. 1 st in next st (last thumb st), k to end of round 33 (36 40) sts

K 2 rounds even.

2nd inc. round: Inc. 1 st in first st, k 3, inc. 1 st in next st, k to end
35 38 42 sts

Continue to inc. 1 st in first and in last thumb st every 3rd round 2 (2 3) times
having 2 sts more between incs. after each inc. round 39 (42 48) sts

K 2 rounds even. Slip to a strand of yarn the 11 (11 13) thumb sts

At end of last round, cast on 2 (2 2) sts

There will be on 3 needles 33 (37 42) sts

Work even until measurement above cuff is 4 (4 ¾ 5) ins
or to desired length allowing for finishing ½ (¾ ¾) ins
decreasing in last round 2 (1 1) sts

First dec. round: -K tog. every 3rd and 4th st 7 (8 9) times

K even 1 (2 2) rounds

2nd dec. round: K tog. every 2nd and 3rd st 7 (8 9) times

K even -0 (1 1) rounds

3rd dec. round: K 2 tog. in succession 7 (8 9) times

Break off, leaving an end. Draw end tightly through all sts. Fasten off.

Thumb: Slip to 2 needles the 11 (11 13) thumb sts
with a 3rd needle pick up and k on the cast-on sts 2 (2 2) sts

There will be on 3 needles for thumb 13 (13 15) sts





K around until thumb measures above cast-on sts 1 ¼ (1 ½ 1 ¾) ins
decreasing in last round 1 st





First dec. round: * K 1, k 2 tog.; repeat from * 3 (3 4 ) times

K even 1 (1 1) rounds

K 2 tog. in succession 4 (4 5) times

Finish as for top of mitten. Make other mitten in same way. Steam.
