Centerpiece. Starting at center, ch 12. join with sl st to form ring.

1st rnd: Make 24 s c in ring. Join with sl st.

2nd rnd: Ch 6 (to count as tr tr), tr tr in each of next 4 s c, holding back the last loop of each tr tr on hook; thread over hook and draw through all loops on hook (a 5-tr tr cluster made), * ch 7, tr tr in next s c. ch 7, 5-tr tr cluster in next 5 s c. Repeat from * 2 more times, ch 7, tr tr in next s c, ch 7, join with sl st to 6th ch of ch-6 first made.

3rd rnd: * S c in tip of cluster, 15 s c in ch-7 loop, s c in tr tr, 15 s c in next ch-7. Repeat from * around. Join.

4th rnd: Ch 5, d c in same place as sl st, ** ch 1, * skip 1 s c, d c in next s c, ch 1. Repeat from * 6 more times, skip 1 s c, into next s c make: d c, ch 2, d c. Repeat from ** around, ending rnd with 7 ch-1 sps, sl st in ch-5 first made.

5th to 14th rnds incl: Ch 5, d c in same sp as sl st, * ch 1, d c in next ch-1 sp. Repeat from * to within ch-2 sp; then ch 1, into ch-2 sp make: d c, ch 2, d c, and continue thus around. Join with sl st.

15th rnd: * S c in next sp, ch 15, skip 1 sp, s c in each of next 3 sps, ch 15, skip 1 sp, s c in ecah of next 3 sps, ch 15, skip 1 sp,, s c in next sp. Repeat from * around. Break off.

Then make a rnd of motifs as follows:

Starting at center, ch 8, join with sl to form ring.

lst rnd: Ch 11, * d c in ring, ch 8. Repeat from * 2 more times. Join with sl st to 3rd st of ch-11 first made.

2nd rnd: Sl st in each of next 2 ch. ch 3, d c in each of next 5 ch, * ch 6, skip 1 ch of next loop, d c in each of next 6 ch. Repeat from * around. Ch 6, join with sl st to 3rd st of ch-3 first made.

3rd rnd: Ch 3, d c in each of next 2 d c, sl st in first ch-15 loop made on l5th rnd of centerpiece, d c in each of next 3 d c, ch 3, sl st in 6th ch of next ch-15 loop, ch 3, skip 1 ch of next loop on motif, d c in each of next 2 ch, skip 3 ch of ch-15 of centerpiece, sl st in next ch, d c in each of next 2 ch back on motif, ch 3, sl st in 6th ch of next ch-15 of centerpiece, ch 3, d c in each of next 3 d c back on motif, skip 3 ch of ch-15, sl st in next ch, d c in each of next 3 d c (thus joining one motif to centerpiece). * Ch 6, skip 1 ch, d c in each of next 4 ch, ch 6, d c in each of next 6 d c. Repeat from * around. Join with sl st. Break off.

Make 12 more motifs same as this, and join to centerpiece as before. This completes the 16th rnd of centerpiece.

17th rnd: Attach thread to 1st loop of motif (counting from joining), make 6 s c in loop, s c in each of 4 d c, 4 s c in next loop, ch 5, sl st in 5th ch from hook (Ip made), 4 s c in same loop, s c in each of next 3 d c, ch-5 p, s c in each of next 3 d c. 8 s c in next loop, s c in each of 4 d c, 3 s c in next loop, ch 10, turn; sl st in 3rd s c back on previous 8-s c loop, turn; 15 s c in loop just made, 5 s c in incompleted loop, s c in next d c, ch 10. turn. Skip 5 s c of 15-s c loop, tr tr in next s c, * ch 7, tr tr in next s c. Repeat from * 3 more times, ch 10, skip 6 s c of next loop, sl st in next s c, turn; 5 s c, p, 5 s c in ch-10 loop; 4 s c, p, 4 s c in next loop; 8 s c in next loop, s c in tr tr, 8 s c in next loop, ch 8, turn. Skip 6 s c, tr tr in next s c, ** ch 5. tr tr in next s c. Repeat from ** once more, ch 8, skip 5 s c, sl st in next s c, turn. Into ch-8 loop make: 5 s c, p, 5 s c; 8 s c in next loop, 4 s c in next loop, ch 10, turn. Skip 8 s c, sl st in next s c, turn. Into ch-10 loop make: 8 s c, p, 8 s c. Then make 4 s c in incompleted loop; 8 s c, p, 8 s c in next loop; 5 s c, p, 5 s c in next loop; 8 s c, p, 8 s c in next loop; s c in each of 3 d c, p, s c in each of next 3 d c; 4 s c, p, 4 s c in next loop; s c in each of 4 d c, 6 s c in loop, 6 s c in adjacent loop of next motif. Continue thus around. Join and break off.

Place Mats (Make 8). Starting at center, ch 12, join with sl st to form ring, and work as for centerpiece from 1st to 11th rnds incl.

12th rnd: * S c in next sp, ch 15, skip 1 sp, s c in each of next 3 sps, ch 15, skip 2 sps, s c in each of next 3 sps, ch 15, skip 1 sp, s c in next sp. Repeat from * around. Break off.

13th rnd: Make 10 motifs as before, and join to previous piece, thus completing 13th rnd of place mat.

14th rnd: Same as 17th rnd of centerpiece. Break off.

lst and 2nd rnds: Same as 1st and 2nd rnds of centerpiece.

3rd rnd: 10 s c in each loop around. Join.

4th rnd: * Ch 5, skip 2 s c, s c in next s c. Repeat from * around, ch 5, sl st in 1st s c made (27 loops).

5th and 6th rnds: Sl st to center of 1st ch-5 loop, 2 s c in same loop, * ch 5, 2 s c in next loop. Repeat from * around. Ch 5, join with sl st to first s c made.

7th rnd: Sl st to center of 1st loop, 2 s c in same loop, s c between 2 s c of previous row, 5 s c in next loop, * s c between next 2 s c, 2 s c in next loop, ch 10, turn; skip 5 s c, sl st in next s c, turn; 15 s c in loop just made, 3 s c in incompleted loop, s c between next 2 s c, 3 s c in next loop, ch 8, turn; skip 5 s c of 15-s c loop, d tr in next s c, ** ch 5, tr tr in next sc Repeat from ** 2 more times, ch 5, d tr in next s c, ch 8, sl st in 1st s c made, turn, and complete as for points of centerpiece (7 points in the rnd).
