Crochet Tutorial – Day Two – Crochet a Tie









When a craft is new to you, it is fun to make something that goes rapidly so the results can be enjoyed soon. This tie is a satisfying beginner’s project because, worked with heavy worsted yarn and a size-F crochet hook, it is quickly finished. It could also be made with tweed yarn of the same weight.

Materials:
4 ounces 4-ply knitting worsted;
1 ounce mohair for trim
Crochet hook size F
Bow tie clip





Check Your Gauge: 5 sc = 1 inch;
4 rows = 1 inch

Tie: Ch 6. Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across. Ch 1, turn.
Row 2: Sc in each sc across. Ch 1, turn (5 sc).
Repeat this row until tie measures 31 1/2″

Next row (inc row): Work 2 sc in first sc, sc in each sc to last sc, 2 sc in last sc. Ch 1, turn.
Repeat this row 6 times more.
Work even on 19 sc until tie measures 20″ from first inc row. Then dec 1 sc at each edge of every row until 1 sc remains. Fasten off.

Decoration: Attach mohair to wrong side of tie point. Following photograph for placement, work
design as follows: Holding mohair on wrong side of work and crochet hook on right side, draw up a loop, * skip about 1/4″ of work, insert hook and draw up a loop and draw through loop on hook (a sl st), repeat from * keeping tension even.
When design is completed, fasten off on wrong side. Press tie lightly.
