Knit Woman’s Cable Anklet Socks

Sizes 10 1/2 -12 1/2

Materials: SOCK AND SWEATER YARN, SHRINK-RESIST FINISH, 3 Ply (1 oz. skeins): 2 skeins for each size . . . Double-pointed Needles, 1 set No. 2 (2 3/4 mm. size).

GAUGE: 11 rnds make 1 inch.

CUFF . . . Cast on 64 sts very loosely. Divide sts on 3 needles and join, being careful not to twist sts. Work in ribbing of k 2, p 2, for 1 1/2 inches.
Now work in pattern as follows:
1st to 5th rnds incl: * P 2, k 6. Repeat from * around.
6th rnd: * P 2, make a cable over next 6 sts— to make a cable, slip next 3 sts onto a spare needle, hold in back of work, knit the next S sts, then knit the sts from spare needle. Repeat from * around. The last 6 rnds constitute pattern. Work in pattern until 16 rnds are completed.

Divide sts for Heel as follows: With 4th needle knit across 17 sts of 1st needle. Slip 15 sts from 3rd needle onto other end of 4th needle (there are 32 heel sts on 4th needle). Divide remaining sts on 2 needles for Instep.

Work back and forth over the heel sts only as follows:

HEEL …
1st row: sl 1, purl across.
2nd row: * sl 1, k 1. Repeat from * across.
Repeat the last 2 rows alternately until piece measures 2 1/4 inches, ending with a purl row
(Fig. 1).

To Turn Heel: 1st row: K 18, k 2 tog, k 1. Turn.
2nd row: sl 1, p 5, p 2 tog, p 1. Turn.
3rd row: sl 1, k 6, k 2 tog, k 1. Turn.
4th row: sl 1, p 7, p 2 tog, p 1. Turn.
5th row: sl 1, k 8, k 2 tog, k 1. Turn.
6th row: sl 1, p 9, p 2 tog, p 1. Turn.
7th row: sl 1, k 10, k 2 tog, k 1. Turn.
8th row: sl 1, p 11, p 2 tog, p 1. Turn.
9th row: sl 1, k 12, k 2 tog, k 1. Turn.
10th row: sl 1, p 13, p 2 tog, p 1. Turn.
11th row: sl 1, k 14, k 2 tog, k 1. Turn.

15th row: Knit across (18 sts remain on heel needle).

INSTEP . . . With a spare needle- 1st needle —pick up and knit 16 sts along edge of heel (Fig. 2). With 2nd needle knit across or work in pattern across Instep sts. With 3rd needle pick up and knit 16 sts along other edge of heel; k 9 sts from heel needle. Slip other 9 sts of heel needle onto 1st needle. There are now 25 sts on 1st and 3rd needles and 32 sts on 2nd needle (Fig. 3).

To Shape Instep: 1st rnd: Knit to last 3 sts on 1st needle, k 2 tog, k 1. Knit across 2nd needle. On 3rd needle k 1, sl 1, k 1, p.s.s.o., knit to end of rnd.
2nd rnd: Knit around, keeping in pattern across 2nd needle if necessary. Repeat the last 2 rnds alternately until 16 sts remain on each of the 1st and 3rd needles.
Work without decreasing until piece measures 6 inches for Size 8 1/2; 7 inches for Size 9 1/2; 8 inches for Size 10 1/2; 9 inches for Size 11 1/2; 10 inches for Size 12 1/2, or 2 1/4 inches less than length desired.

To Shape Toe: 1st rnd: Knit to last 3 sts on 1st needle, k 2 tog, k 1; on 2nd needle, k 1, sl 1, k 1, p.s.s.o., knit across to last 3 sts, k 2 tog, k 1; on 3rd needle, k 1, sl 1, k 1, p.s.s.o., knit to end of rnd.
2nd rnd: Knit around. Repeat the last 2 rnds alternately until 16 sts remain.
With 3rd needle knit across sts of 1st needle (8 sts on each of 2 needles). Break yarn, leaving 20 inches of yarn at end of needle. Weave sts together (see below).

WEAVING . . . Step 1: Thread the 20 inches of yarn onto a wool needle (Fig. 4).
Step 2: Hold the two needles with the stitches even and parallel, having the end of yarn at the right of back needle.
Step 3: Insert wool needle as if to purl in first stitch of front needle. Draw yarn through, leaving the stitch on needle.
Step 4: Insert wool needle as if to knit into the first stitch of back needle. Draw yarn through, leaving the stitch on needle.
Step 5: Insert wool needle as if to knit into first stitch of front needle (same stitch as before), and slip this stitch off the needle. Insert needle in next stitch of front needle as if to purl. Draw yarn through, leaving the stitch on needle.
Step 6: Insert wool needle as if to purl into the stitch of back needle and slip this stitch off. Insert wool needle into next stitch of back needle as if to knit. Draw yarn through, leaving stitch on needle.
Repeat Steps 5 and 6 until all sts are worked off. Darn in end of yarn securely.

Knit Women’s Ribbed Cuff Anklet Socks

Sizes 8 1/2 – 11 1/2

Materials: SCOTCH FINGERING YARN, 3 Ply (1 oz. skeins): 2 skeins for each size . . . Double-pointed Needles, 1 set No. 2 (2 3/4 mm. size).

GAUGE: 8 sts make 1 inch; 11 rnds make 1 inch.

CUFF . . . Cast on 64 sts very loosely. Divide sts on 3 needles and join, being careful not to twist sts. Work in ribbing of k 2, p 2, for 3 inches for Cuff (1 1/2 inches if Cuff is not desired). Now work in stockinette st (knit each rnd) for 2 more inches.

Divide sts for Heel as follows: With 4th needle, knit across 16 sts of 1st needle. Slip 16 sts from 3rd needle onto other end of 4th needle (there are 32 heel sts on 4th needle). Divide remaining sts on 2 needles for Instep.

Work back and forth over the heel sts only as follows:

Knitting – Men’s Socks

Sizes 10 1/2 – 12 1/2 — Slack Length

Materials: SOCK AND SWEATER YARN, SHRINK-RESIST FINISH, 3 Ply (1 oz. skeins): 3 skeins for Sizes 10 1/2 and 11 1/2; 4 skeins for Size 12 1/2 . . . Double-pointed Needles, 1 set No. 2 (2 3/4 mm. size).

GAUGE: 8 sts make 1 inch; 11 rnds make 1 inch.

CUFF . . . Cast on 68 sts very loosely. Divide sts on 3 needles and join, being careful not to twist sts. Work in ribbing of k 2, p 2, for 2  1/2 inches, decreasing evenly on last rnd to 64 sts. Now work in ribbing of p 2, k 6, until entire piece measures 6 inches in all.

Divide sts for Heel as follows: With 4th needle, knit across 17 sts of 1st needle. Slip 15 sts from 3rd needle onto other end of 4th needle (there are 32 heel sts on 4th needle). Divide remaining sts on 2 needles for Instep.

Work back and forth over the heel sts only as follows:
HEEL …
1st row: sl 1, purl across.
2nd row: * sl 1, k 1. Repeat from * across.

when piece measures 3 1/2 inches in all, work pocket opening as follows: Starting at front edge, work in pattern across next 24 sts, slip the next 28 sts on to a stitch holder to be worked later for Pocket Band, cast on 28 sts to replace those sts on stitch holder and complete row. Continue in pattern, shaping side edge and making buttonholes as directed.

To Shape Shoulder: Starting at armhole edge, bind off 6 sts on every other row 3 times. Starting at same edge, bind off

RIGHT FRONT . .. Work to correspond with Left Front, reversing shapings and omitting buttonholes.

POCKET BANDS . . . Slip the sts from stitch holder on to a needle, attach yarn and knit across, decreasing 4 sts. Work 6 rows of garter st. Bind off, knitting the sts.

POCKET LININGS … With right side facing, pick up and knit 28 sts along the 28 cast-on sts of pocket opening. Work in pattern for 2 1/2 inches. Bind off.

Press pieces through damp cloth. Sew shoulder seams. Fit extensions of front band across back of neck and sew ends together; then sew in place.

ARMBANDS . . . With right side facing, pick up and knit 130 sts around armhole edge. Work 4 rows of garter st. Bind off, knitting the sts.

Sew side seams. Whip pocket linings in place. Sew ends of pocket bands in place. Sew on buttons. Block to measurements.
