Vintage Crochet – White Rose Summer Sweater – free pattern

SIZES: Directions for size 8. Changes for sizes 10, 12, 14, 16 and 18 are in parentheses.
Body Bust Size: 31 1/2″ (321/2 “-34″-36″-38″-40″).
Blocked Bust Size: 33″ (34″-36″-38″-40″-42″).

MATERIALS: Fingering yarn, 3 ply, 8 (8-9-9-10-11) 1-oz. skeins. Crochet hook No. 3 or F. Lining material (optional). Matching sewing thread.

GAUGE: 4 meshes = 1″; 7 rows = 2″.

To Bind Off: At beg of row, sl st loosely across each mesh to be bound off, then ch 3 and continue across row; at end of row, work in pat to within specified number of meshes to be bound off.

To Dec 1 Mesh: At beg of row, ch 2, sk first dc, dc in next dc (counts as 1 dc), ch 1, dc in next dc (one mesh); at end of row, work to last dc, ch 1, pull up a Ip in last dc, pull up a Ip in 3rd ch of turning ch, (yo and through 2 Ips on hook) twice.

To Inc 1 Mesh: At beg of row, ch 3, dc in first dc; at end of row, (ch 1, dc in 3rd ch of turning ch) twice.

To Make Meshes: Dc in dc, ch 1, sk 1 st, dc in next dc (1 mesh); ch 1, sk 1 st, dc in next st for each additional mesh.

To Make Blocks: Dc in each of 3 sts (1 block); dc in each of next 2 sts for each additional block.

Chart Notes: Meshes are shown on chart as open squares, blocks by black squares.

BLOUSE: BACK: Beg at lower edge, ch 137 (141-149-157-165-173).
Row 1: Dc in 4th ch from hook and in each ch across-134 (138-146-154-162-170) dc. Ch 4, turn.
Row 2: Sk first 2 dc, * dc in next dc, ch 1, sk next dc, repeat from * across, end dc in top of turning ch— 67 (69-73-77-81-85) meshes. Ch 4, turn. Check gauge; piece should mea-sure 16 3/4″ (17 1/4″ 18 1/4″-19 1/4″-20 1/4″-21 1/4″) wide.
Row 3: Sk first dc and ch-1 sp, dc in next dc (1 mesh), * ch 1, dc in next dc, repeat from * across, end ch 1, dc in 3rd ch of turning ch. Ch 4, turn.
Rows 4-46: Repeat row 3. Piece should measure about 14″ from start.

Shape Armholes: Keeping to mesh pat, bind off (see To Bind Off) 4 (4-5-5-6-6) meshes each side of next row. Dec 1 mesh (see To Dec 1 Mesh) each side every row 6 (6-6-7-7-8) times—47 (49-51-53-55-57) meshes. Work even until armholes measure 5″ (5-5 14″-5 1/2″-5 1/2″-5 3/4″) above first row of armhole shaping.

Shape Neck and Shoulders: Work 13 (13-14-14-15-15) meshes, dc in next dc, drop yarn; sk next 19 (21-21-23-23-25) meshes for center neck; join another strand of yarn in next dc, ch 2, dc in next dc, work in mesh pat across – 13 (13-14-14-15-15) meshes each side. Working on both sides at once, with separate strands of yarn, dec 1 mesh each neck edge every row 5 times – 8 (8-9-9-10-10) meshes each side. Bind off 4 meshes each arm side once. End off.

 

FRONT: Work same as for back for 2 rows.
Row 3: Sk first dc and ch-1 sp, dc in next dc (1 mesh), * ch 1, dc in next dc, repeat from * 9 (10-12-14-16-18) times, put a marker in last dc; following chart (see Chart Notes), work from right to left (Left-handed crocheters: work from left to right), put a marker in last dc worked, work in mesh pat across remaining 11 (12-14-16-18-20) meshes. Ch 4, turn.
Row 4: Work in mesh pat to marked st, work chart from left to right (Left-handed crocheters: work chart from right to left), finish row in mesh pat. Ch 4, turn. Repeat last 2 rows to end of pat row 46.

Shape Armholes: Keeping to pat as established, shape armholes same as for back-47 (49-51-53-55-57) meshes.
When the 61 rows of chart are completed, work in mesh pat until armholes measure 1 row less than back to start of neck shaping.
Shape Neck: Work same as for back -8 (8-9-9-10-10) meshes each side. Work 1 row even.
Shape Shoulders: Bind off 4 sts each arm side once. End off.

SLEEVES: Beg at lower edge, ch 51 (51-55-55-59-63).
Row 1: DC in 4th ch from hook and in each ch across-48 (48-52-52-56-60) dc. Ch4, turn.
Row 2: Sk first 2 dc, * dc in next dc, ch 1, sk next dc, repeat from * across, end dc in top of turning ch—24 (24-26-26-28-30) meshes. Work in mesh pat, inc 1 mesh each side every 4th row 13 (13-14-15-15-15) times-50 (50-54-56-58-60) meshes. Work even until piece measures 17″ (17″-17 1/2″-17 1/2″-18″-18″) from start or desired length to underarm. Check gauge; piece above last inc row should measure 12 1/2″ (12 1/2 “-13 1/2″-14″-14 1/2″-15″) wide.
Shape Cap: Bind off 4 (4-5-5-6-6) meshes each side of next row. Dec 1 st each side every row 15 (15-16-17-17-18) times-12 meshes. End off.

FINISHING: Block pieces. Using back and front for patterns, cut lining, allowing 1/2″ on all edges for seams and 1″ for 1/2″ darts at waistline and bust; assemble lining. Weave shoulder seams; sew in sleeves. Sew side and sleeve seams. From right side, work 1 rnd dc around neck edge, being careful to keep work flat. Turn under 1/2″ on all edges of lining; slip-stitch in place to sweater.

Vintage Crochet Beachwear – Bikini and Skirt – free pattern

Easy-crochet bikini has wooden ring joinings. Tie-on skirt is made of granny afghan squares.

SIZES: Bikini: Directions for small size (6-8). Changes for medium size (10) and large size (12) are in parentheses. Skirt fits all sizes.
Fits Body Bust Size: 30 1/2″-31 1/2″ (32 1/2″; 34″).

MATERIALS: Phentex (3 ply) or orlon yarn of knitting worsted weight,
1 4-oz. skein for bikini; 4 4-oz. skeins of any desired colors for skirt. Crochet hook size G. Three 1 1/2″ wooden rings.

GAUGE: 3 dc = 1″; 2 rows = 1″.

BIKINI: PANTIES: Beg at front waistline, ch 41 (43-45) loosely. Row 1: 2 dc in 3rd ch from hook, * sk next ch, 2 dc in next ch, repeat from * across, end sk next ch, dc in last ch-19 (20-21) V-sts, counting each 2 dc as 1 V-st. Ch 3, turn each row.
Row 2: Sk first dc. dc in sp between next 2 dc (center of V-st), * V-st of 2 dc in center of next V-st. repeat from * across, end dc in top of turning ch. Repeat last row 8 (9-10) times-10 V-sts. Ch 1. turn.

Back Waistband: Next Row: Work 8 V-sts, (dc in center of next V-st, V-st in center of next V-st) 5 (5-6) times, V-st in center of each V-st across.
Next Row: V-st in center of each V-st and dc in sp before each dc across. End off.
Front Waistband: From wrong side join yarn in first ch of starting ch.
Row 1: Working across starting ch, V-st in base of each V-st across. Ch 3, turn.
Next Row: V-st in center of each V-st across; do not turn. Work 1 rnd sc around outer edge of panties, easing in legs and waistline to desired fit. Join with sl st in first sc.
Next Rnd: Working in back lp, sc in each sc. Join; end off.

TABS (make 4): Ch 5, sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across-4 sc. Ch 1, turn. Work in sc for 3 rows. End off, leaving a long end for sewing. Sew a tab to each side of back and front waistband over wooden rings as pictured.

BRA: First Cup: Beg at front edge, ch 23 (25-27).
Row 1: V-st of 2 dc in 3rd ch from hook, * sk next ch, V-st of 2 dc in next ch, repeat from * across, end sk next ch, dc in last ch-10 (11-12) V-sts. Ch 3, turn each row.
Row 2: Sk first dc, dc in center of first V-st, * V-st in center of next V-st, repeat from * across, end V-st in center of last V-st.
Row 3: V-st in center of each V-st across, end V-st in last V-st, dc in top of turning ch-9 (10-11) V-sts. Repeat last 2 rows 3 times-6 (7-8) V-sts.
Next Row: Repeat row 2-5 (6-7) V-sts.
Next Row: V-st in each V-st to with-in 1 V-st of end, end dc in last V-st, dc in top of turning ch—4 (5-6) V-sts.
Next Row: Sk first 2 dc, dc in next V-st, V-st in each V-st across—3 (4-5) V-sts. Repeat last 2 rows until 1 V-st remains. Do not end off; work 1 rnd sc around cup, working 3 sc in each of 3 corners and pulling in dec edge slightly. End off.
Make 2nd cup same as first cup.

TABS (make 2): Work same as for tabs for panties.

FINISHING: Sew a tab over ring to corner of each cup opposite dec edge.

TIES (make 4): Make ch 16″ long. End off. Sew one end of a tie to top and side points of each cup; knot other end.

 

SKIRT: SQUARES (make 24): With any desired color, ch 4, join with a si st to form ring.
Rnd 1: Ch 3 (counts as 1 dc), make 2 dc in ring, ch 1, * 3 dc in ring, ch 1, repeat from * twice, join last ch 1 to top of ch 3 with a sl st (4 groups of 3 dc in rnd).
Rnd 2: SI st to first ch-1 sp, ch 3, 2 dc in same sp, ch 1, * 3 dc in next ch-1 sp, ch 2, 3 dc in same sp, ch 1, repeat from * twice, 3 dc in same sp with first 3 dc, ch 2, join with a sl st to top of ch 3.
Rnd 3: SI st to first ch-1 sp, ch 3, 2 dc in same sp, ch 1, * (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in corner ch-2 sp, ch 1, 3 dc in next ch-1 sp, ch 1, repeat from * around, end (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in corner ch-2 sp, ch 1, join with a sl st to top of ch 3.
Rnd 4: SI st to first ch-1 sp, ch 3, 2 dc in same sp, ch 1, work from * on rnd 3, having 2 groups of 3 dc between corners. Join with a sl st to top of ch 3.
Rnd 5: Ch 1, sc in each dc and ch-1 sp around, working 3 sc in each cor-ner ch-2 sp. Join with a sl st in first sc.
Rnd 6: Ch 1, sc in each sc around, working 3 sc in each corner sc. Join; end off.
Work remaining squares in any color combination desired. When changing colors, start rnd with new color, working over end of previous color.

FINISHING: Sew squares tog, catching back lps of sts only, forming strip 3 squares wide, 8 squares long.
Waistband: Join yarn at upper front edge. Work 1 row sc across, dec to desired waist measurement (to dec, pull up a Ip in each of 2 sc, yo hook and through 3 Ips on hook). Ch 1, turn. Work in sc for 4 rows.
Next Row: Ch 3, sk next sc, 2 dc in next sc, repeat from * across. Ch 2, turn.
Next Row: 2 dc in each sp between 2-dc groups; do not turn. Working on side edge of waistband, work 2 dc in side edge of next row, sk next row; continue in this manner working 2 dc in sc, sk next sc, down front edge, across lower edge, up front edge. End off.

TIES (make 2): Make ch 12″ long. Dc in 3rd ch from hook and in each ch across. End off, leaving 12″ end. Attach a tie to each side of waistband.

Crochet Beachwear – Woman’s Summer Playsuit – free pattern

Summer playsuit (top left) worked in lacy shells is beautifully shaped with crocheted-in darts. Sizes 8 – 16.

 SIZES: Directions for. small size (8-10). Changes for medium size (12-14) and large size (16) are in parentheses.
Body Bust Size: 311/2″-321/2″ (34″-36″; 38″).
Blocked Bust Size (closed): 34″ (36″-38″).
Body Hip Size: 331/2″-34′/2″ (36″-38″; 40″).
Blocked Hip Size: 37″ (39″-41″).

MATERIALS: 12 (12-14) 250-yard balls mercerized knitting and crochet cotton. Steel crochet hook size 0. 11 ball buttons, beads or button molds.

GAUGE: 3 shells = 2 3/4 “; 5 rows = 2 1/4″.

Note: Playsuit is worked with double strand of thread throughout.

BODICE: BACK: Beg at waistline, with 2 strands of yarn, ch 77 (81-85) loosely.

Shape Shoulders and Neck: Next Row: Work  1/2 shell, 4 shells, 1/2 shell. Ch 2, turn.
Next Row: Sk  1/2 shell, work shell in next shell and in each of next 3 shells, 1/2 shell in top of ch-3. Turn.
Next Row: Sl st to center of 2nd shell, work (sc, hdc, dc) in same ch-1 sp, shell in next ch-1 sp, 1/2 shell in next ch-1 sp. End off, leaving 12″ length for sewing shoulder. Join double strand of yarn in center of 5th shell from end on last long row. Ch 3, dc in same ch-1 sp (1/2 shell), work 4 shells, 1/2 shell. Complete same as for first shoulder, reversing shaping.

RIGHT FRONT: Beg at lower edge, with double strand of yarn, ch 37 (41-45) loosely. Work in pat as for back for 3 rows – 7 (8-9) shells, plus 1/2 shell each side. Mark end of last row for side edge.
Shape Dart: Row 4: Work 1/2 shell, 4 (4-5) shells, dc between shells, put a marker in this inc dc, work 3 (4-4) shells, 1/2 shell.
Rows 5-9: Work inc over marker same as for back — 3 dc in center dc over marker.
Row 10: Working in pat, work 4 dc in center dc over marker.
Row 11: Working in pat, work 4 dc in center sp between dc over marker.

Row 19: Work in pat across to side edge, being careful to work shells over bust dart in line with previous shells. Work even until piece measures same as back to underarm, end side edge.

Shape Armhole and Neck: Sl st loosely to center ch-1 sp of 2nd (2nd-3rd) shell; ch 3, dc in same ch-1 sp ( 1/2 shell), work 7 (8-8) shells, dc in top of ch-3 — 1 dc dec. Turn.
Row 2: Ch 3, work dc, ch 1, 2 dc in ch-1 sp, work in pat across — 1 dc dec.
Row 3: Work in pat across, end 2 dc, ch 1, dc in ch-1 sp.
Row 4: Ch 3, dc in first ch-1 sp ( 1/2 shell), work in pat across — 6 (7-7) shells, plus 1/2 shell each side. Continue to dec 1 dc at neck edge until 4 shells plus 1/2 shell each side remain. Work even, if necessary, until armhole measures same as back, end center edge.

Shape Shoulder: Ch 3, work 1/2 shell in next ch-1 sp, work 1 shell, (dc, hdc, sc) in next ch-1 sp, sl st in each of next 2 dc. End off.

LEFT FRONT: Work same as for right front; pat is reversible.
Sew shoulder and side seams.

Pants: From right side, join double strand of yarn in lower edge of left front edge (Left-handed crocheters: right front edge).
Row 1: Ch 1, * 2 sc in ch-3 sp, sc in center of base of next shell, repeat from * 2 (3-3) times, sc in next ch-3 sp, ch 8, sc in same ch-3 sp (belt loop made); continue to work 2 sc in each ch-3 sp, sc in base of each shell across, working a belt loop at side seam, each back dart, center back, side seam, front dart and at right center front -8 belt Ips. Turn.

Pattern: Row 1: Ch 3, dc in first sc ( 1/2 shell), shell of 2 dc, ch 1, 2 dc in sc at center base of first 3 (4-4) shells, dc in sp between shells (mark for front dart), work shell in base of next 5 (5-6) shells, dc in next sc (mark for side dart), work shell in base of next 4 shells, dc between shells (mark for back dart), work shell in base of next 9 (10-11) shells, dc in sp between shells (mark for back dart), work shell in base of next 4 shells, dc in sp between shells (mark for side dart), work shell in sc at center base of next 5 (5-6) shells, dc in sp between shells (mark for front dart), work shell in sc at center base of next 3 (4-4) shells, 1/2  shell in last sc – 33 (36-39) shells, plus 1/2 shell each side — 6 markers. Keeping to pat, work dart inc as follows:
Rows 2 and 3: Work dc over each marked dc.
Row 4: Work 2 dc in each marked dc.
Row 5: Work dc in each of 2 dc over marked dc.
Row 6: Work 3 dc between 2 dc over marker.
Row 7: Work 3 dc in center dc over marker.
Row 8: Work 4 dc in center dc over marker.
Row 9: Work shell of 2 dc, ch 1, 2 dc in center sp between dc over markers – 6 shells inc — 39 (42-45) shells, plus 1/2 shell each side. Remove front and side markers — 2 markers remain (back darts).
Row 10: Working in pat, work 5 dc in ch-1 sp on back dart shells.
Row 11: Work 6 dc in center dc over markers.
Row 12: Work 4 dc in 2nd and 5th dc of each back dart.
Joining Row: Row 13:Work shell in center sp of each back dart 4-dc group – 2 shells inc – 41 (44-47) shells, plus 1/2 shell each side. Ch 1, join with a sl st in top of ch 3 at beg of row (1/2 shells now form 1 shell). Turn. Workaround as follows:

Rnd 14: Ch 3, dc in ch-1 sp be-tween  1/2 shells, work in shell pat around, end 1/2 shell of 2 dc in ch-1 sp between 1/2 shells, ch 1, join with a sl st in top of ch 3. Turn. Repeat last row until piece measures desired length to crotch — 9″ for 5 ’2″ height; 9 1/2″ for 5’4″ height; 11″ for 5’8″ height. Do not turn at end of last row.

Crotch: Sl st to ch-1 sp of next shell. Turn.
Row 1: Ch 3, sk first st, dc in each of next 9 sts (center of 3rd shell). Turn each row.
Rows 2-11: Ch 3, dc in each dc across — 10 dc, counting ch 3 as 1 dc. Drop yarn at end of last row. Weave crotch piece to 9 (10-9) sts on center back (1 shell, plus 1/2 shell each side for small and large sizes, 2 shells for medium size).

First Leg: Pick up yarn at end of crotch; working around leg, ch 3, dc in first st ( 1/2 shell), shell in each ch-1 sp around leg; work 5 shells evenly spaced across side of crotch piece; work  1/2 shell in first st, ch 1, join with a sl st in top of ch-3 – 25 (27-28) shells. Work around in shell pat, joining each rnd with a sl st until 6 rows from start of leg.

Shell Edging: From right side, * sl st between shells, 5 dc in ch-1 sp, repeat from * around, end sl st in first sl st. End off.

Second Leg: From wrong side, join double strand of yarn in back corner of crotch piece; ch 3, dc in same st, work 5 shells across side of crotch piece, work shells in each ch-1 sp around leg, end 1/2 shell in same st as joining. Turn. Complete same as for first leg.

Front Opening Edging: From right side (Left-handed crocheters: from wrong side), join double strand of yarn in lower right front edge of opening. Work 1 rnd sc evenly spaced up right front edge, around neck, down left front edge, having same number of sts in each front edge. Ch 1, turn.
Row 2: Sc in each sc up left front, around neck, end at start of right ; neck shaping, * ch 3, sk next 5 sc, sc in each of next 3 sc (button-hole made), repeat from * 10 times, sc in each sc to lower edge. Ch 1, turn.
Left-handed crocheters: End off. Join yarn on left front.)
Next Row: Work shells of 6 dc around, working shell in center ch of ch-3 sp and sc in center sc of 3 sc between buttonholes, remaining shells evenly spaced around. End off. Sew lower edge of edging to opening.

Armhole Edging: Work 1 row sc tightly around armhole. Work shells of 6 dc, sc evenly spaced around. End off.

TIE:Ch 3, sl st in first ch, forming ring. Dc in each ch around; do not  join. Continue to dc in each dc, forming a spiral cord, until tie measures 60″. End off.

BUTTONS (make 11): Ch 3, sl st in first ch, forming ring.
Rnd 1: 2 sc in each ch around — 6 sc.
Rnd 2: 2 sc in back lp of each sc around— 12sc.
Rnd 3: * Sc in back lp of next sc, 2 sc in back Ip of next sc, repeat from * around until piece covers button. Cut yarn, leaving 12″ end. Thread needle with long end; draw sts tog tightly. Sew to left front edge.
Steam-press lightly.
Thread tie through belt loops.
